The DC movie universe may be a bit scrambled at this point, but there is seemingly one character still holding various movies together. During the Black Adam panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, it was confirmed that Viola Davis would appear in the movie as Amanda Waller, a role she'd played in Suicide Squad, The Suicide Squad, and even HBO Max's Peacemaker.
Waller was seen in footage screened for the crowd in Hall H, calling in the Justice Society of America to lock Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson) down, as he's a loose cannon. According to GameSpot's Mason Downey, who is in Hall H for the presentation, the footage shown was more violent than you might expect.
It remains to be seen how present Waller will be in the film, though chances are she won't be as present as she is in the Suicide Squad films. That said, knowing this movie is tied directly to the Suicide Squad side of the DCEU is pretty cool.
A shortened version of the clip was released, showing Adam causing lots of damage and chaos around the world. They really are pushing the theme that he's not your run-of-the-mill superhero. «The world needed a hero,» Black Adam says in the trailer. «It got me.» Perhaps it'll come to regret it.
Of course, Black Adam wasn't the only DC film showcased during the Warner Bros. Hall H panel. We also got a brand-new trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which included the first look at the movie's villains, the sisters of Atlas. Naturally, we also got to see a bunch of kids turning into ridiculously powerful superheroes and plenty of jokes.
Black Adam hits theaters on October 21.
