Why was Bill Burr's Patrick Kuby replaced by Steven Ogg's Sobchak in Better Call Saul season 5? Better Call Saul is the origin story of Bob Odenkirk’s Breaking Bad character Saul Goodman (who almost died in the show's finale) and inhabits the same murky Albuquerque underworld as its predecessor, so it makes sense the prequel series features several character crossovers. Jonathan Banks and Giancarlo Esposito’s Mike Ehrmantraut and Gus Fring both play significant roles in Better Call Saul, but there are plenty of other familiar faces from Breaking Bad on the show too.
Better Call Saul season 1, for example, featured drug kingpin Tuco Salamanca (Raymond Cruz) and season 2 reintroduced his sociopathic uncle Hector Salamanca (Mark Margolis) whose origins are also explored further. The third season of Better Call Saul, meanwhile, saw Lavell Crawford reprise his role as Saul Goodman’s bodyguard Huell Babineaux which had Breaking Bad fans wondering whether his fellow henchman Patrick Kuby would ever make an appearance in the prequel.

Played by Bill Burr, Patrick Kuby only appeared in a total of five Breaking Bad episodes but Burr’s entertaining turn as the charismatic hired hand of Goodman and his hilarious partnership with Huell Babineaux were nonetheless a highlight of the show. Unfortunately, Bill Burr has yet to appear in Better Call Saul but there’s a lot of evidence out there that suggests he was once supposed to reprise his role as Patrick Kuby during the fifth season, only for Steven Ogg's Sobchak to take over his intended role.
In late 2019, comedian/actor Bill Burr was interviewed on The Rich Eisen Show and admitted there were plans for him
