While it is set in stone that Better Call Saul will be coming to an end this summer, what remains to be seen is if the Breaking Bad universe will stop expanding as well. Giancarlo Esposito, who has played legendary drug kingpin Gustavo Fring since 2009, has expressed a public interest in expanding Fring's story following the conclusion of Better Call Saul.
Esposito revealed that while he's sad that Better Call Saul is ending, he also detailed a conversation he had with showrunner Vince Gilligan. According to Esposito, Gilligan may or may not have hinted that they will expand the Breaking Bad ethos.

While making an appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden, Esposito got a little candid when revealing both his feelings while also believing there could be more to come. «I'm a little choked up. I don't want to talk about it! It's over. It's going to be over. I never want to say… well, Vince Gilligan said to me, 'It's not over until it's over.' But what does that mean? Is that a clue? And for me, I think it may be a clue because I take all of that as an actor, you take that really personally like there could be something else.» Esposito later reflected on how different his performance as Fring is on Better Call Saul compared to Breaking Bad because of how different the circumstances are. «For me, I feel like I got a chance in season 6 to explore a more vulnerable, different Gustavo Fring… Lalo Salamanca is a threat to me, and I always control the chaos and steer what's happening, but in this season, I'm vulnerable, I'm nervous, I'm not the same Gustavo Fring you've ever seen before. So you get a more nuanced performance and a wider range of emotion
