Bethesda’s Starfield is still a few weeks from release, with Premium Edition owners receiving early access on September 1st. However, following the live-action trailer from Gamescom Opening Night Live, several attendees have gone hands-on with the game and thus far, they can attest to how big it is.
Pete Hines, senior VP of global marketing and communications at Bethesda Softworks, described his experience during Xbox’s Gamescom livestream. He’s put about 150 to 160 hours into the game, and “If I am honest, there’s not an amount of time that I’m comfortable enough, of like, ‘now you’ve played enough Starfield to get what this game is’.”
Despite spending so much time in-game, Hines said he hadn’t “even come close” to seeing or doing everything the game had to offer. “There’s so much stuff I have intentionally not done…We try and tell everybody how big this game is, and the folks playing it, like, one of the few things they will tell us is, ‘Yeah, you weren’t kidding. I can’t believe how big it is.’
“It’s content and exploration – No matter how you wanna play, there is so much for you to do in this game.”
Of course, since its official reveal, Bethesda has touted the game’s scope, with over 1000 planets to explore with multiple biomes on each. You can customize star ships and your character in various ways, with the latter benefitting from Traits and Backgrounds to add more flavor. That’s not including settlement creation, weapons and crafting, companions, surveying planets, side quests or the main story.
Starfield launches on September 6th for Xbox Series X/S and PC, while also releasing on day one for Game Pass. Stay tuned for more details en route to release.
