Confusion over the physical releases of Arkane's Redfall caused many to believe that it would not be shipping with a disc. Questions about preservation for the Xbox exclusive arose when it was announced that Redfall would require an online connection even when playing in single-player. These would have only intensified if physical copies were going to ship with a download code and understandably caused more concern for how long the game will be playable after its initial momentum eventually fades away.
Although Redfall has the potential to bring elements of immersive sims to an open world, ithas been a talking point when it comes to video game preservation. While there is an emphasis on cooperative play, the online requirement persisting in the game's single-player offerings has proven frustrating for many who would have otherwise wanted to play it.
Redfall Reveals Pre-Order Bonuses
The confusion over Redfall's possible lack of a disc version was noticed when a ResetEra user spotted a statement on Bethesda's page for the game on its support site that said physical copies were Xbox Play Anywhere codes that could be played on the Xbox Series X/S and PC. When the mistake was noticed, Bethesda released a statement on Twitter clarifying that the standard retail version for Redfall on Xbox will include a disc but that the PC version does not. This does mean that while it is partially true that some physical copies of Redfall will not come with a disc, the initial statement on the game's page failed to clarify that not all copies would only contain a code.
