However, others were dismayed by quickly the movie moved on from this interesting development.
The scene occurs near the climax of No Time To Die when Bond and Moneypenny visit their colleague’s home. Q undoes his biggest Skyfall mistake and helps out his co-workers, but then chides them for intruding on his personal life in the process, noting that his boyfriend is on his way over and their timing is terrible. The cute throwaway moment worked for some critics and fans, but many—including Q actor Ben Whishaw—were less than impressed.

The actor said that he felt the James Bond franchise did nothing with the revelation that Q had a boyfriend, and he’s not wrong. While there was little time to dwell on Q’s love life during the busy plot of No Time To Die, the James Bond series could easily have addressed his orientation in an earlier Craig outing and actually featured a cameo from Q’s love interest by the time No Time To Die came around instead of offering the bare minimum mere scenes before ending Craig’s reign as Bond. While Bond 26 may bring back Whishaw’s Q and expand on his character, for now, the line felt more crammed-in than organic and more throw away than revolutionary.
