In the eyes of fans, Gotham City has become just as iconic as Batman himself, with the aesthetic of the location just as important as the depiction of Batman in any given story, and the inclusion of a new statue within the city is the best change to Gotham in years. Gotham is constantly changing based on the style of the artist who tackles its look. From over-the-top gothic to basically just a crime ridden, filthy city. Though one thing Gotham always has is recognizable landmarks, and this new statue is truly one for the ages.
In Batman: Killing Time #1 by Tom King and David Marquez, the Riddler, Catwoman, Penguin, and Killer Croc team up to steal something of significant value from a bank vault. While Killer Croc is more or less the distraction used to keep Batman busy, and ends up being arrested, the job orchestrated by the other three goes off without a hitch. After the heist is done, Penguin, Riddler, and Catwoman meet at a designated location that is so haunting, it could only exist in Gotham.

The villains meet at a new statue added to the Gotham landscape, the Wayne Memorial Statue. The sculpture depicts the ghost-like forms of Thomas and Martha Wayne, holding and wrapped around each other with a baby Bruce Wayne in Martha’s arms. This statue works on so many levels as a new landmark in Gotham City. It is a tribute to the heartbreaking loss suffered by a prominent Gotham family while also unwittingly representing Bruce’s dark journey for justice since the death of his parents.
