In his time as a hero, Batman has experienced plenty of heartbreak, but the Dark Knight just revealed the darkest part of taking on a sidekick like Robin. In Batman #125 from DC Comics, Tim Drake is seriously injured, leading Batman to recount the death of Jason Todd and how he had to change him out of his costume before taking him to the hospital so he didn't reveal his secret identity to the public. He admits to nearly quitting as a hero after the incident.
The death of Jason Todd was one of the most tragic events in Batman's life, as the Joker brutally tortured and killed Robin and left the hero to find the lifeless body of his sidekick. Todd's death represented a crossroads for the DC Comics hero, as he questioned whether having a sidekick was worth putting a youngster at risk. Todd would eventually return as the Red Hood and question why Batman didn't do more to save him. Now, the Caped Crusader is revealing a new tragic detail from Todd's death that shows another dark side of being a superhero.

In Batman #125 by Chip Zdarsky, Jorge Jimenez, Belen Ortega, Tomeu Morey, and Luis Guerrero, Batman and Tim Drake's Robin foil an attempt by Penguin and Clayface to kill a large group of Gotham City elites. However, Robin is shot in the neck during the mission, leading a panicked Batman to get in the batmobile and rush to a hospital to get Tim the help he needs. Robin tells Batman he needs to get him out of his costume or the Dark Knight will «lose everything.» The comment reminds Batman of another dark moment with Robin, leading to a flashback about the death of Jason Todd.
