The critically-acclaimed Batman: Arkham series could be coming to the Nintendo Switch this summer, at least according to a recent leak from a French retailer. Rocksteady took gaming and comic book fans by surprise with the release of Batman: Arkham Asylum, a 2009 blockbuster that shattered the Dark Knight’s previously lackluster video game reputation with a haunting atmosphere and solid gameplay. 2010’s Batman: Arkham City would build on Asylum’s foundation by adding in a gritty open-world filled with criminals and side quests in addition to a parallel subplot that allowed players to step into the role of Batman’s longtime foil/love interest Catwoman. Finally, 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight would finally put players behind the wheel of the Batmobile, though fans were mixed on how this was implemented.
While the Batman: Arkham series was already available to PlayStation and Xbox players from the very beginning, Nintendo gamers have been largely left out of the Dark Knight’s latest and most successful interactive adventures. In fact, the only Nintendo port of the Arkham series to date is Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition for the Wii U, which added special functionality for the console’s touchscreen controller along with some alternate power armor skins for Batman and Catwoman. Even when the three mainline installments of the Arkham series were re-released in 2018’s Batman: Arkham Collection, it was only made available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC through outlets like Steam — with no word on when it would be coming to the Nintendo Switch.
