Batman: Arkham Origins had a strange online multiplayer option that was genuinely a stroke of genius. Splash Damage's gamealready stood out from the rest of the series as it is the only Batman: Arkham installment to not be developed by Rocksteady Studios. Its online play only further emphasized how it was both the black sheep of the family and one of the best in the Batman: Arkham series.
Batman: Arkham Origins' online multiplayer mode was not very popular in its time, namely because it was only available on Disc Two for console players. Servers for it shut down in 2016 even though Batman: Arkham Knight made the mistake of not offering a replacement for it. Despite not being coveted by fans, the online multiplayer option offered them two game modes: Invisible Predator Online and Hunter, Hunted. In both, players could either be a Joker henchman, a Bane henchman, the Caped Crusader, or Robin. This resulted in a battlefield in which those working on the side of villains had to live in constant fear of being taken down by the World's Greatest Detective and his trusted sidekick.

What made Batman: Arkham Origins' online game modes so effective were the balance they struck. Neither Batman, Robin, nor the Henchman were overpowered, which made each opponent in the game equally fearful. They were also equally fun and provided unique components to the game modes. This in turn created an online team deathmatch experience like no other.
