Out of all the new subclasses coming in next year's Patch 8 release, the most hilarious and possibly overpowered is the Way of the Drunken Master Monk subclass. The developers are "" with this new addition to the popular Monk subclass options, and it will allow players to put all that booze they have lying around to good use. While the information is somewhat limited on these subclass features, there's enough to give players a sense of what items, feats, and strategies they might use when they try out a proper Drunk Monk build in 2025.
Because Larian has promised this to be the last major update, hopes are pretty high. The Drunken Master is ripe for humorous combat animations and dialogue that could be on par with some infamous Vicious Mockery lines. It will also be interesting to see how the 5e Drunken Master features translate to and if players will be buffed by alcohol in similar ways. A brief blurb in Larian Studios' recent community update describes the key features of the Drunken Master Monk, the primary one being the ability to consume alcohol from the inventory and around the Sword Coast to regain Ki points. The Intoxicating Strike attack is also detailed, which intoxicates targets and gives players a buff to hit chance against drunk targets and a boost to AC. And suppose things are getting a little too rowdy. In that case, the Drunken Monk will have the Sobering Realisation ability, which deals physical and Psychic damage by bringing the target immediately out of their drunken state.
Monk is one of the most diverse classes in Baldur's Gate 3, and with so many items you can use to make your build work, some stand out above the rest.
It will be interesting to see how other 5e features of the Drunk Monk might be interpreted in, such as Drunkard's Luck, which allows players to spend Ki points
