In bringing the Infinity Saga to a conclusion, Avengers: Endgame may have also disproved Thor's claim in Thor: Ragnarok that he was the strongest Avenger. In Ragnarok, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) struggled to re-establish and control his immense power after the destruction of his hammer, Mjolnir, by his sister, Hela (Cate Blanchett). After taking on Hela and saving the Asgardian people, he was demoralized again by his failure to kill Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Avengers: Infinity War. As a result, during much of Avengers: Endgame Thor was a broken figure, struggling with his worthiness and appearing more like The Dude from The Big Lebowski than the legendary God of Thunder.
The ultimate defeat of Thanos in Avengers: Endgame came at a significant cost to the Avengers, with both Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) sacrificing themselves to save the people they loved. In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor made it obvious that he believed he was the strongest Avenger. As a result, he believed that “Strongest Avenger” should have been his password to unlock the controls of the Quinjet that Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) had used to travel to the planet Sakaar. The punchline to the joke was that Tony Stark made it clear who he believed the title should belong to by giving the "Strongest Avenger" password to Banner instead.
