Since their introduction to the series in season 3, TLC viewers have been less-than-impressed with Dannielle's husband, who determined that he was interested in polygamy after reading the Bible. By the time Garrick convinced Dannielle to accept another partner into their marriage, the Merrifield's were married for over a decade with two children.
Although Dannielle eventually agreed to Garrick searching for a sister wife, Seeking Sister Wife fans were immediately turned off by Garrick's personality and, according to viewers, manipulation tactics. Season 3 showed Garrick and Dannielle meeting a Brazilian woman, Roberta, in Mexico—and despite Roberta and the Merrifield's not speaking the same language, Garrick sought to divorce Dannielle to marry Roberta and bring her to the United States. If that's not callous enough, Garrick and Roberta's attempts to have a baby of their own helped solidify Garrick as one of the worst Seeking Sister Wife husbands to fans who were in awe at how badly Dannielle was being treated.
