As part of the recent D23 Marvel and Disney Games Showcase presentation, in-game footage of MMORPG Avatar: Reckoning was shown for the very first time. Announced earlier this year, there have been a lot of questions regarding what Avatar: Reckoning is, outside of a mobile MMORPG based on James Cameron's films. The new trailer offers a first look at what gameplay in Avatar: Reckoning may look like, and some may be surprised.
An idea of what Avatar: Reckoning came from developer Archosaur Games' past work. The Chinese mobile game developer's most recent release is Noah's Heart, an open-world fantasy MMORPG. It features full character creation, a story campaign, and action gameplay. Avatar: Reckoning will be trading the action combat for third-person shooting and there's no indication it's open-world, but it does show that Archosaur is a veteran team with mobile MMORPG experience.

The trailer for Avatar: Reckoning features a mix of in-engine cinematics and gameplay. The story seems inspired by the first Avatar movie, which featured a human becoming an «operator» of a Na'vi-human hybrid avatar. As such, they're visiting another planet, interacting with the Na'vi natives but still wielding human guns and wearing human clothing. Progression in the MMORPG will involve upgrading these guns and equipment, with the trailer hinting at a The Division-esque arsenal for players to wield.
Other MMORPG gameplay shown in the trailer includes a dungeon-like battle involving giant saws moving back and forth in an arena. A party of players has to destroy the saws while avoiding the damage, much like it's a dungeon boss. There's also a player vs. player mode shown featuring what looks
