With Avatar: The Way of Water on the horizon, the original Avatar film is scheduled for a theatrical re-release. The titanic, James Cameron-helmed film has also unveiled a new Dolby Theaters poster ahead of its re-release.
Released way back in 2009, Avatar has had several re-releases. As the highest-grossing box office film of all time, it’s been a no-brainer to bring it back to theaters several times, with each re-release adding to its gross. The theatrical experience provided by the original Avatar is legendary, as the film spawned the 3D and IMAX craze of the ‘10s, with studios hoping to recapture that lightning in a bottle.

The re-release has also prompted the studio to release a new poster for Avatar, which is being released in 4K High Dynamic Range. The poster features a shot of Jake Sulley (Sam Worthington) holding a bow in Na’vi form, with Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) and the Pandoran Hallelujah Mountains in the background. A notable change is the font for the Avatar title. Infamously, the first film used Papyrus font for its title, but it has since been replaced with a new font after much mockery of the design choice.
The re-release of Avatar is sure to keep audiences fresh on the plot of the original film come December's release of Avatar: The Way of Water. In preparation for the re-release, the original Avatar was removed from Disney Plus, likely to drive fans to see it in theaters. Other than physical copies of the film, the re-release is now the only way to watch a legitimate copy of the original and to re-capture the original, famed theatrical experience.
