The controversial decision not to confirm Avatar Korra and Asami’s relationship in Avatar: The Legend of Korra was met with harsh criticism from fans, but now Avatar Studios has announced three animated films in production set during the Avatar: The Last Airbender andAvatar: The Legend of Korra eras, fans are hopeful they will adapt the queer love story’s continuation seen in The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars.
The Legend of Korra confirmed its major romantic fan theory in the final episode, when Korra and Asami shared a romantic gaze, with creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko since leaving little doubt that the implication was that the two would go on as a couple. However, fans pointed out that had the relationship been heterosexual, the characters would doubtless have shared a kiss, and there would have been far less room for doubt about their romantic future. While the series' important LGBTQ+ representation has been praised, Turf Wars shows just what's possible when their love is truly celebrated.

In Turf Wars Part One, Korra and Asami spend their vacation exploring the spirit world. After narrowly escaping a disgruntled spirit’s attack, Korra and Asami share a kiss then both agree on how it’s been «the best few days.» In Part Two, when Asami mentions her run-in with the Creeping Crystals gang, Korra explains she wants to protect Asami because she cares about Asami more than she’s ever cared about anything. After Asami and Korra defeat the Big-Bad of the series in Part Three, Korra mentions how as long as they’re together, they can overcome anything.
