Avatar Studios reveals their first Avatar: The Last Airbender movie will bring back Aang and his friends. Avatar Aang was, of course, the lead character in the original series created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino that aired on Nickelodeon from 2005-2008. When Avatar: The Last Airbender was added to Netflix in 2020, it had a massive resurgence in popularity, which was a good sign for the streamer's live-action adaptation. Though Konietzko and DiMartino were initially involved, they eventually left the project and joined Avatar Studios, the production company created by Nickelodeon to expand the world of The Last Airbender.
When Avatar Studios launched in February 2021, DiMartino and Konietzko were set as co-chief creative officers and three new animated movies were announced. Little was revealed about the movies at the time, except that the first would be directed by Lauren Montgomery (Voltron: Legendary Defender). Since then, Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action show has found its cast and filmed its first season, but there's been little news about the Avatar Studios movies. In fact, details about the Avatar: The Last Airbender movies have remained under wraps — until now.
