Digital picture frames are typically smaller, desk- and shelf-friendly devices. That's been the case for Aura, one of the larger frame manufacturers with models that top out at 10.1 inches—until now. The company just announced its biggest frame yet: the 15-inch, wall-mountable Walden.
The Walden features a 15-inch diagonal photo display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, a 1,600-by-1,200 resolution, and an anti-glare finish. The screen is surrounded by white matting with a thin black frame around it. The frame's resolution is higher than the aforementioned 10.1-inch, 1,280-by-800 Carver models, though lower resolution than Aura's 9.7-inch, 2,048-by-1,536 Mason Luxe and Smith frames. Its sharpness sits between the two extremes at 133 pixels per square inch (compared with 50ppi for the Carver and 265 for the Mason Luxe and Smith).
This isn't the first wall-mountable frame Aura has offered, but it is the first since the company started producing frames in 2016. The original 9.7-inch Aura Classic frame could be hanged on a wall, but since then all other Aura frames have been tabletop models.
While the Aura Walden is the first major 15-inch dedicated digital photo frame we've seen so far, it isn't the first device that can work like one. The Amazon Echo Show 15 smart display is also 15 inches and is wall-mountable (and in fact must be hanged on the wall unless you purchase an optional table stand). It has a higher-resolution 1080p screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio, and has significantly more features with the Amazon Alexa voice assistant and Fire TV smart TV platform. However, all of those features aren't necessarily desirable, especially if you have concerns about privacy; you might not want a picture frame with a camera and microphone.
