Apple Watch SE 2 is coming soon and tags along some big upgrades over the current model, as suggested by a leak. The Watch SE has been Apple's most affordable “modern” smartwatch for the masses at a reasonably low price. Apple is now set to upgrade it given that current model has been around since 2020. And based on the leak, it seems Apple could be giving some big changes that will still keep Watch Series 7 as a superior device.
Based on the leak report from iDropNews, Apple might be soon unveiling a Watch SE 2, probably later this year when the iPhone 14 drops. The new model could retain the look of the current model but will bring in some much needed changes on the inside. The recipe is same as the new iPhone SE, wherein it retained the old phone's body but got a new chip inside as well as other things.
The biggest change is said to be regarding its chipset. The Watch SE 2 could ditch the S5 chip and use the newer the S7 chip from the Watch Series 7. Not that the Watch SE is slower by any means but the new chip should give it slightly better performance and most importantly, better longevity.
The Watch SE 2 will look the same as the Watch SE, with the same Aluminium body and the old-style display. The display could, however, see an LTPO OLED panel with peak brightness levels of 1000 nits. This means the display will be brighter and help save more battery, since the battery capacity is rumoured to remain unchanged.
The LTPO display also means the Watch SE 2 could get the Always On Display feature. Also coming from the Watch Series 6 is the ECG sensor, which will be a big upgrade on the health monitoring front for the Watch SE. The current Watch SE can only measure heart rate, sleep, steps along with the basic workout
