Andrew Garfield only shared the secret of his Spider-Man: No Way Homerole with a few people, mostly within his family. Garfield kept the internet on their toes throughout 2021 as rumors swirled that he would reprise his Peter Parker for the first time since 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in No Way Home. As he promoted other films like The Eyes of Tammy Faye and tick, tick… BOOM!, he lied about his involvement with the MCU film, even as images of him on set leaked online.
As the movie's December release finally confirmed, Garfield is in fact in No Way Home. He, just like Maguire, appears in the film's final act to give Holland's Peter some key superhero advice and assist in sending the villains from other universes back to where they came from. Since then, fans have been celebrating Garfield's version of the character online and calling on Sony to make The Amazing Spider-Man 3. So far, nothing is officially in the works, but Garfield has shown his willingness to return.

Right now, though, he's enjoying his victory lap. Garfield has remarked on his Spider-Man return multiple times over the past few weeks, and most recently, he appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about his amazing year. On the subject of the secret he kept in the lead-up to No Way Home, Garfield admitted there were a few people he told. "My dad, my brother, and my mother at the time," he said. "Yeah, just kind of us."
Even though practically everyone worked out his involvement with Spider-Man: No Way Home ahead of time, Garfield still worked to keep it a secret. He admitted recently that lying about it was the best option, and that he even had a lot of fun doing it.
