Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland was completely surprised by the film's box office success. No Way Home is the third instalment in the MCU's Spider-Man saga and was perhaps the most anticipated film of 2021. The film follows Holland's Peter Parker/Spider-Man as he fights foes from other universes (including Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, Alfred Molina's Doc Ock, and Jamie Foxx's Electro), after one of Doctor Strange's (Benedict Cumberbatch) spells goes wrong. Spider-Man: No Way Home also features the initially heavily rumored, and now greatly celebrated, appearances from former Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
Spider-Man: No Way Home's box office success has been astounding. This isn't necessarily surprising, since as soon as Marvel announced that characters from previous Spider-Man movies would be involved, it became clear that No Way Home was film that every fan wanted to see. With that said, few could have predicted just how big No Way Home'ssuccess would be. The film is well on it's way to overtaking James Cameron's sci-fi Avatar at the box office, which is the highest grossing film internationally of all time, and third domestically.

In a recent interview with BackstageOL, Holland sat down to discuss his new film Uncharted. It was during this interview that host Dave Morales mentioned No Way Home's staggering box office returns. It quickly became clear that Holland was not aware of just how far the film had come, stating that he thought the film was «a ways away from being the biggest film of all time.» Morales then informed Holland that Spider-Man: No Way Home is only $20 million away domestically from the milestone,
