Anakin Skywalker is infamously outraged at receiving a seat on the Jedi Council without attaining the rank of Jedi Master in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, but he’s not the first Jedi to be in this unique position. Ki-Adi-Mundi, a minor character in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, has an extensive biography in the Legends timeline, including a surprising number of parallels to Anakin Skywalker. Not only did Ki-Adi-Mundi join the Jedi Council before becoming a Jedi Master, but he also joined the Jedi Order at an older age than most initiates and later became a husband, all while staying true to the ways of the old Jedi Order.
Anakin Skywalker’s desire to become a Jedi Master was delved into in more detail in the Revenge of the Sith novelization, revealing that Anakin cared little for the seat on the council and the rank of Jedi Master, but sought the privileges that came with the title. As a Jedi Master, Anakin would have full access to normally-restricted tomes in the Jedi archives, some of which delved into the dark side of the Force, with Anakin believing them to hold the secret to save his wife, Padmé, from death. Anakin believed that having a seat on the council without being a Jedi Master was preposterous, yet Ki-Adi-Mundi, who was in the meeting when Anakin expressed this outrage, had once been in a similar position.
