The first review of AMD's Ryzen 7 7745HX "Dragon Range" Laptop CPU has been published by tech content creator, Golden Pig Upgrade, at Bilibili.
The AMD Ryzen 7 7745HX is one of the four Dragon Range Laptop CPUs that will be available on a range of high-end laptops soon. The CPU packs 8 cores, 16 threads, 40 MB of cache, and has a clock speed rated at 3.6 GHz base & 5.1 GHz boost. The CPU comes in a base TDP spec of 45W which can be configured beyond 75 Watts since overclocking is supported on this high-end and enthusiast-grade laptop chip.
The Lenovo laptop in which the chip was featured comes with an 85W base TDP for the Ryzen 7 7745HX with an upper limit of 125/145W. The CPU has a TaU of 300s. It also packs an NVIDIA RTX 4060 Laptop GPU rated at 140W and a pair of DDR5-5200 (8 GB x 2) memory.
The tech outlet tested the AMD Ryzen 7 7745HX CPU through various benchmarks. In application performance, the CPU was run through Cinebench, SuperPi, y-cruncher, 3DMark CPU Profile, and various other content creation / rendering benchmarks. The overall results put the 8-core Dragon Range Laptop CPU on par with Intel's Core i7-13700Hx and Core i7-13650HX, both of which have a higher core count of 16 and 14, respectively. The gaming numbers are even more surprising with the AMD Ryzen 7 7745HX "Dragon Range" 8-Core CPU leading both the Core i7-13700HX and the Core i7-13650HX. Several modern titles were tested and the AMD chip managed to secure the lead in the majority of the titles.
