Leaked AMD slides suggest that the next-gen Threadripper PRO Workstation CPU family is indeed heading for launch this fall.
There have been plenty of leaks for the AMD Threadripper PRO family which is codenamed Storm Peak and will be branded under the Threadripper 7000 series. The new family will feature up to an insane 96 cores based on the Zen 4 core architecture and we have some new data courtesy of the latest leak by Underfox.
The leaked slides don't mention the actual name of the chip but point out that the Threadripper PRO family is getting an update this fall and there are some interesting hints as to what we can expect from these upcoming chips. First up, we have an official benchmark that compares a 96-core Threadripper PRO CPU, the 7995WX, against the Intel Xeon W9-3495X which is a 56-core chip.
The benchmark used here isn't mentioned but it evaluates the render performance of workstation-class processors. The Intel Xeon "Sapphire Rapids" CPU completes the render in 1,125 seconds and the Threadripper PRO 7995WX completes the render in 657 seconds which allows for up to 75% more renders to be completed per day. That should be a given from the fact that the chip offers a 71% increase in core/thread count but Intel peaks out at 56 cores which means users who want to get more performance have only one choice and that's Threadripper PRO.
The slide also for some reason lists down the existing Threadripper PRO 5000 CPUs and how you can get up to 20% faster performance versus Intel Xeon chips and extend that lead with the newer Threadripper PRO 7000 CPUs.
