Amazon has introduced an augmented reality feature called 'Virtual Try-On for Shoes' that lets users visualize how a pair of shoes will look on their feet. AR-based shopping features are nothing new, with most cosmetic brands already offering customers the ability to try on lipsticks and other products virtually before ordering. However, this is the first time that the largest retailer in the world has introduced this feature for any product.
Primarily known for its multi-billion-dollar e-commerce business, the Seattle-based Amazon also offers a multitude of other products and services, including cloud computing, digital streaming, and consumer electronics, among others. It has also recently worked with autonomous vehicles (Zoox) and satellite internet (Kuiper Systems). Founded by Jeff Bezos in the nineties, Amazon is also one of the largest American tech companies alongside Microsoft, Apple, Alphabet and Meta.

In a press release announcing the launch of the new AR feature, Amazon said that it would create innovative experiences that would make online shopping more fun for customers. To use Amazon's virtual try-on feature, users should first select a shoe on the app and then tap on the 'Virtual Try-On' button below the product image. Then, they should point their smartphone camera at their feet to visualize how the shoe looks on them. Customers can also move their feet to see how the shoes look from different angles. What's more, they will also be able to change the shoe's color by going through the available options and selecting the one they fancy.
