Very soon, all playable heroes will be made available to all players for free, but it does not come without a catch. Previously, in Blizzard’s competitive shooter, it was necessary to either purchase the Battle Pass in which a new character was introduced or play several hours before being able to use them adequately in matches. Players could also purchase “starter kits” in the in-game store that unlocked the character and one of their skins but, ultimately, new heroes, such as Mauga in , were blocked behind a paywall for a while.
As revealed in a developer update posted on the official channel on YouTube and reported by, Blizzard intends to offer all playable heroes for free starting with Season 10. When the new season kicks off, not only will the new character, Venture, be made available for all players without any extra costs or purchase requirements, but all previously locked heroes will also be made available.
There is a catch to this, however: players who are just starting their competitive adventure into will still be required to complete the regular onboarding experience, which involves tutorials and unlocking the original roster of characters. Nevertheless, after that is done, characters like Venture, Mauga, and Illari, for instance, will all be unlocked.
In addition to making all current and future characters in the game free for all players to use, Blizzard also announced news about their time-limited Mythic Skins. These special and customizable skins are the main rewards at the end of every Battle Pass and offer players a chance to tweak the visuals of certain heroes on their own accord.
Past Mythic Skins, which had been blocked off from players who did not obtain them with the Battle Pass in , will now be offered in the Mythic Shop. With the new method, players will be able to not only purchase the desired Mythic Skin but also determine what parts of the item they want to unlock, dividing how they choose to upgrade and customize it.
