The death of On-jo's father may have been one of the most heartbreaking moments in All of Us Are Dead, but it happened for a good reason. All of Us Are Dead combined a school drama with an action-packed zombie thriller into one entertaining adventured spread through a well-paced 12-episode journey. As with every zombie story, some beloved All of Us Are Dead characters were lost along the way. For So-ju’s death, however, there was a stronger motive behind it than simply to shock viewers.
Despite its large number of characters and plotlines, All of Us Are Dead managed to make audiences care about each of season 1’s stories. Behind all the action and different types of zombies, All of Us Are Dead saw a story about friendship, family, and how far someone can go to protect their loved ones. The main example of this was So-ju, On-jo's father, who went out of his way to save his daughter. The first-responder whose journey the show followed since the first episode went through several mishaps to find On-jo, and at the end of the season finally made it to the school. Had it not been for On-jo’s father, the students of class 2-5 would not have escaped from what was appearing to be certain death.

While it was a sad moment that some viewers even perceived as unnecessary, So-ju's death may actually serve to prevent a Deus ex Machina issue in All of Us Are Dead season 2. So-ju was shown to be an expert survivor, always prepared for any situation due to his training, and who could solve many of the young characters' problems quickly and without conflict.
