Alec Baldwin claims the wrong people are being targeted in the lawsuits regarding the fatal accident that took Halyna Hutchins' life on the Rust film set. Hutchins was a Ukrainian cinematographer who had more than 30 films under her belt. She died earlier last year when a live round fired from the pistol that Baldwin was holding struck her in the torso and hit director Joel Souza, who has since recovered, in the shoulder. As the investigation continues, it is unclear who exactly is at fault for the tragedy at hand.
Rust star and producer Baldwin has been at the center of the incident, since he was holding the gun that was discharged. Pictures circulated of the veteran actor grief stricken while making a phone call shortly after the accident happened. Baldwin had since met with Hutchins' widower, Matt Hutchins, and their 9-year-old son, seemingly making amends — however, he has distanced himself from the situation, saying in interviews he did not pull the trigger or even point the gun in Hutchins’ direction. Her family has since filed a wrongful death suit against Baldwin and others, with Matt Hutchins expressing his anger towards Baldwin, claiming it is absurd to say the person holding the gun is not responsible for what occurred.

CNN now reports that, while speaking at the Boulder International Film Festival, Baldwin claims “deep-pocketed litigants” are being targeted in the lawsuits instead of the people who were potentially negligent in the situation.
