Remedy Entertainment has been trying to get Alan Wake 2 off the ground for well over a decade, and even though the journey to this point has been a turbulent one, we are finally at a point where the long-awaited sequel is not far from launch. And ahead of its looming release, the developer has offered some more brief insight on its development.
Specifically, Remedy Entertainment’s communications director Thomas Puha has talked about the development cycle of Alan Wake 2 as it exists in its current form. Taking to Twitter, Puha revealed that the survival horror title had about 130 people working on it on average throughout the dev cycle, and that production on it was completed in about four years.
Puha went on to note that, for the “quality level” that Alan Wake 2 has achieved, the length and scale of its development cycle has been “incredible”. He added: “We are very, very far from first parties or other big resources.”
Alan Wake 2 is due out on October 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Its launch was delayed by 10 days so it could avoid going head-to-head with other games launching in mid-October, like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
I’ll also say that somehow we are getting this game done with about 130 people on average for about 4 years of dev time (dev time is a very elastic term tho) for the quality level we got, is incredible. We are very, very far from 1st parties or other big studios resources.
