A new customisable Xbox Pride controller will be released this month
Xbox is celebrating Pride month with the release of a new controller, a game giveaway and more.
Kate Rayner, vice president and technical director at The Coalition, said in an Xbox Wire post that players will be able to create their own unique Pride controller beginning on June 9 via the Xbox Design Lab service, which allows users to customise their own pads.
“This year’s Pride top case design brings together 34 community flags in a fine, interwoven manner to celebrate the nuance, complexity, intersectionality, and strength of the many LGBTQIA+ communities,” Rayner wrote.
“You can customise all other parts of the controller with a broad color palette, metallic finishes, rubberized grips, and even add engraving to make your Pride controller unique to you.”
As was the case in 2021, Xbox and Dontnod Entertainment are also celebrating Pride month by making Tell Me Why free on all platforms in June.
The game stars a transgender protagonist and has received general praise for its handling of LGBTQIA+ topics.
Throughout June, players logging into Halo Infinite will also receive and be able to display a “Unity” nameplate and emblem. And later this month, Forza Horizon 4/5 and Forza Motorsport 7 players will be gifted an exclusive rainbow livery for the 2009 Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster.
Microsoft said it has donated over $8 million to organisations that support LGBTQIA+ communities in the last year, and that along with Xbox it will donate a further $170,000 to LGBTQIA+ non-profit organisations to mark the launch of its 2022 Pride campaign and products.
“Xbox will continue to champion a wide array of content and creators, so that games can better represent players from all communities and identities,” wrote Rayner.
