Deep within Elden Ring's Crumbling Farum Azula lies a secret entrance to one of the game's saddest bosses: Dragonlord Placidusax. There are many Elden Ring bosses players should feel bad for, and most of the game's lore is fraught with tragedy. Placidusax, however, is exceptionally depressing, from his decrepit body to what little is known of his pitiful backstory.
The Dragonlord is located in the lowest area of Crumbling Farum Azula, reached from what looks like a fairly innocuous dead-end path of floating, broken structures. The player must lie down on the floor in order to be sucked into a raging storm, where the debris reassembles to create Placidusax's domain. The dragon is curled up in the middle of a dejected, foggy arena, surrounded by a violent lightning storm that rains down ash.

Within the game's lore, the world is recovering from Elden Ring's brutal Shattering War, and nearly all the major boss characters still suffer from the fallout. However, Dragonlord Placidusax's description claims he was the Elden Lord "in the age before the Erdtree." The god he once served disappeared, leaving him waiting for its return in the middle of a storm somehow removed from the passage of time. How long the Dragonlord has been waiting in this timeless space is anybody's guess, but seeing as how he was Elden Lord before Godfrey (who is conflictingly referred to as the «First Elden Lord»), it has likely been many years.
