A new beta system update for the PlayStation 5 is adding new social, accessibility and UX features to the console.
Beta participants from the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Germany and France are receiving invites, starting today, to test the firmware’s new features ahead of their potential inclusion in a full system update.
These new features include the ability to join a Discord voice chat direct from the PS5 console, and the ability to start or request a Share Screen session with a friend directly from their profile.
The beta also includes Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support for displays that support 1440p resolution.
Other new features include transferring data from PS5 to PS5, manually uploading game captures to the PlayStation App, using voice commands to capture video clips and the ability to sort and filter games when adding them to a gamelist.
According to Sony, the final system update that will incorporate these features will roll out globally “in the coming months,” and some of the beta’s features may either be changed before then, or not make it into the final update at all.
