You can now avail a total of 58 transport related services online with the help of Aadhaar authentication, on voluntary basis. The information was provided by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) over its Twitter handle. The citizen-centric services that can be availed online, eliminating the need to visit the RTO are related to driving license, conductor license, vehicle registration, permit, transfer of ownership, among others. "MoRTH has issued a notification increasing 18 citizen-centric services to 58 services related to driving license, conductor license, vehicle registration, permit, transfer of ownership etc, completely online, eliminating the need to visit the RTO," MoRTH tweet read.
"Providing such services in a contactless and faceless manner would go a long way in saving critical time of citizens while easing their compliance burden. Consequently, the footfall at the RTOs is likely to significantly reduce, which would lead to greater efficiency in their functioning," the ministry further said in a statement. The central government has now allowed the Aadhaar authentication for the purpose of usage of digital platforms to ensure good governance, and notified the following-
1. Any individual desirous of availing various services online through the portal (Parivahan.gov.in or mParivahan application), is required to undergo Aadhaar authentication (on voluntary basis);
2. Provided that any person who does not have Aadhaar number may avail such service in physical form by establishing the identity by submitting an alternative document physically with respective Authority as per CMVR 1989.
