As Stranger Things producers continue discussing who will be making a return to the fifth and final season of the ultra-popular Netflix series, Shawn Levy recently addressed all the talk about Joseph Quinn's Eddie Munson making another appearance. However, before Stranger Things fans get too excited, it doesn't appear there are any special plans in the works.
Back during the Emmys, Levy quickly touched on several issues surrounding what might happen in season 5 of Stranger Things. Because Eddie Munson has become such a popular character with fans of the Netflix story, it didn't take long for the subject to turn in his direction.

During the interview with The Hollywood Reporter when walking the red carpet at the Emmys, when it came to Eddie, Levy was fairly blunt, saying that it was «highly unlikely» the character would make a return. The Stranger Things producer laughed when he talked about how the people behind the Netflix show were a bit surprised at just how popular Eddie Munson became over the course of his one season. Levy added that he knows there are a lot of people who simply can't fathom the idea of the series' final season not including the character in some way.
There have been plenty of fan theories out there about just how Eddie could come back in Stranger Things season 5. Some people have posited he could return as a kind of faux ally of Vecna (this would be true to the D&D story of the Mind Flayer). Other theories have him not actually making a triumphant return but serving as a kind of voice inside of Dustin's head as the group battles with the forces of the Upside Down.
