Three characters in Obi-Wan Kenobi uniquely represent the various George Lucas eras of Star Wars. The Disney+ original series takes place 10 years after the events of Lucas's final prequel, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and finds the titular Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) in hiding on Tatooine, keeping a close eye on Luke Skywalker while avoiding the detection of Darth Vader’s Inquisitors. It’s a dangerous time for Obi-Wan to be trekking through the galaxy, and nothing makes this clearer than his violent reunion with Vader (Hayden Christensen) in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi show is part of Lucasfilm’s efforts to create a more interconnected universe. With this show, they're expanding the franchise's timeline and character roster, providing audiences with a deeper understanding of Star Wars history, including the prequel trilogy era, the Dark Times (set between Revenge of the Sith and the first movie), and the founding and expansion of the Rebellion. Other Star Warsshows including The Mandalorian focus more on the time between the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy, just after the Empire was defeated.
