Yu-Gi-Oh! is unbanning one of its most famous cards, almost 17 years after it was scrubbed from the game. Change of Heart, the anime classic that allows you to gain control of your opponents' monsters, is back in the game following its ban back in April 2005.
Though still banned in the Japanese OCG, the international TCG has announced it its latest Forbidden and Limited List update that it is moving Change of Heart from its previous Forbidden status to a slightly-more-lenient Limited. This means that you can run one copy of it in your deck, rather than the usual maximum of three.

For such a simple card, it can be difficult for newcomers to Yu-Gi-Oh! to understand why Change of Heart is so powerful. Monsters are not just your attacking force used to beat your opponents' life totals down, they're also a resource used to progress your deck even further. Tributing monsters to summon bigger ones, fusing them, and using their effects to control the board are all vital to victory, and Change of Heart can effortlessly shut down someone's deck with a single, well-timed card.
While it's still incredibly powerful in today's Yu-Gi-Oh! landscape, it isn't quite the force it was in 2005. There are more ways to counter spells and protect your own pieces. Plus, with how many quick, turn-one or -two wins there are, having a spell like Change of Heart to hand could help stop players from completely running away with the game. It's likely that Change of Heart might become a powerful 'going second' card without it becoming the dominant force it was all those years ago.
