The Xiaomi 12 series offers some of the highest grade specs and features in the high-end flagship territory. It is the midrange segment, however, where Xiaomi is yet to announce anything from the 2022 range. Leaks now suggest that the Xiaomi 12 Lite is in the works and based on the leaked info, it seems Xiaomi is following Samsung's strategy of offering minimum upgrades over generations with the latter's Galaxy A series devices.
The Xiaomi 12 Lite has been spotted on GeekBench benchmarking platform and based on the data, it seems Xiaomi will continue to use the older Snapdragon 778G chipset. The listing also reveals 8GB RAM as standard on this phone. The phone will boot MIUI 13 out of the box but it will now be running on Android 12 instead of the older Android 11. Xiaomi is yet to make any announcements on this front, hence take all of this with a pinch of salt.
Based on the leaked data, the Xiaomi 12 Lite seems to be largely unchanged from the existing Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G. The Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G runs on the same Snapdragon 778G chipset and also comes with 8GB RAM on its top-end model. This phone, however, offered a 10-bit display with support for Dolby Vision and a very lightweight body.
It remains to be seen whether Xiaomi brings more upgrades to other areas of the Xiaomi 12 Lite. The current trend dictates Xiaomi to put its 108MP HM2 sensor on all phones and we could be seeing the same on the Xiaomi 12 Lite. The phone could derive a lot of components from the Xiaomi 12X but dial them down to meet a lower price tag.
The Lite series from Xiaomi is instrumental for the company to compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, Vivo V23, Oppo Reno 7, and a bunch of other midrange Android handsets.
