's expansion,, introduces a new side activity called Major Excavations. Major Excavations debuted as a part of patch 11.0.7, released on October 31, 2024, ahead of the game's 20th anniversary the following month. In these quests, players can donate resources to a series of treasure hunting expeditions throughout Siren Isle. Players can choose between one of three factions, each of which unlocks a different dungeon, and grants them different rewards.
Major Excavations can be somewhat confusing to players who have never participated in them before, especially because of their variable nature. Here's everything to know about how Major Excavations work in .
Major Excavations revolve around three different races from : the Earthen, the Goblins, and the Arathi. Each of these factions has set its sights on one of Siren Isle's caves, and is interested in digging it up and retrieving whatever's inside. The Earthen have sensed unusual bursts of energy coming from Shuddering Hollow, the Goblins seek hoards of treasure in The Drain, and the Arathi grow concerned about a threat they believe to be lurking within The Drowned Lair.
World of Warcraft is celebrating its 20th Anniversary with numerous events, but there's also a chance to get an incredibly rare mount again.
For their own respective reasons, all three are interested in getting inside, but first, they'll need the funds to do so. That's where the player comes in: they'll be asked by all three factions to donate 's new exclusive currency, Flame Blessed Iron (see below), to their choice of the three causes. In stacks of five Flame Blessed Iron at a time, all players on a server donate to gradually fill each faction's meter. When one of them reaches 100%, a Major Excavation is triggered, revealing the associated cave.
It is entirely possible to sponsor the Earthen, the Goblins, and the Arathi all at once.
Once the cave is unlocked, a unique event boss spawns in the relevant location on the map. Players can then travel to it
