During their interview with DesMephisto, Cinematic Director of Story and Franchise Development Marc Messenger and World of Warcraft Lead Cinematic Narrative Designer Terran Gregory revealed that Dragonflight would feature a series of short cinematic stories similar to Shadowlands: Afterlives and Battle for Azeroth: Warbringers. First introduced in Mists of Pandaria, these short animated stories help explore and familiarize players with the character, zones, and general themes of each expansion's storyline.
Although they didn't give away any specific details concerning the subjects of new shorts, we can assume that they'll focus on the returning Dragonflights and the major characters which represent them.Burdens of Shaohao was the first set of shorts, featuring the trials of Emperor Shaohao in the days before the Great Sundering, and was the only series to launch mid-expansion, releasing ahead of Patch 5.4. Since then, the others were all featured as pre-release material.Lords of War reintroduced (some of) the titular Warlords of Draenor as stories told by Vindicator Maraad to then-King Varian Wrynn, intended to help prepare him for a new war with the Iron Horde.Harbingers told the backstories of three key figures in Legion's story ahead of the Burning Legion's second invasion of Azeroth — Gul'dan, Khadgar, and Illidan Stormrage.Warbringers similarly introduced the story of Battle for Azeroth, exploring the lives of Jaina Proudmoore, Sylvanas Windrunner, and Queen Azshara.
