Hollywoodle has you work out how two actors are connected through the movies they’ve been in and other actors they’ve worked with.
We’ve covered several Wordle clones that are only clones in spirit. Conceptually, they’re almost entirely original games, such as High Score Day and Redactle.
Hollywoodle is another such example, since it bears more similarities to Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon (something it wholly acknowledges) than anything else. That said, it still uses the Wordle suffix, no doubt to help it capitalise on the trend.
It’s definitely one of the cleverer Wordle clones we’ve seen so far, since it tasks you with something more than just guessing a movie title or actor name. Instead, you need to find a connection between two actors in as few turns as possible.
Let’s use today’s puzzle as an example, where the two actors are J. K. Simmons and Angourie Rice. You start by naming a movie that Simmons starred in, then name another actor from that movie.
You keep going back and forth between movies and actors until you reach a movie that Rice starred in. Unlike Wordle, there’s no guess limit either so you’re free to keep going until you find the answer.
Hollywoodle’s also generous enough to let you retry the puzzle if you think you can get it in less tries (something most other Wordle clones don’t do). However, only your first playthrough will count towards your daily statistics.
There’s even an archive that lets you go back and try previous puzzles you’ve missed; something many wish Wordle would add.
If you find yourself struggling, there is a hint system that will name a movie or actor for you, but this will add to your guess count. Incorrect guesses will add three to the count.
We will say that today’s puzzle can be achieved
