Jason Blum has shared a picture of director Leigh Whannell on the first day of filming for Blumhouse’s adaptation.
Whannell is on his second classic Universal Monster adaptation, having successfully modernized The Invisible Man in 2020 with Elizabeth Moss.

Wolf Man had originally been due to star Ryan Gosling and was to be directed by Derek Cianfrance (The Place Beyond the Pines), but they departed, leaving Whannell to direct, and Gosling’s First Man co-star Christopher Abbott took on the lead role.
Not too much is known about the film, but the early word of the Cianfrance/Gosling version said it was about a news anchorman who gets infected with a lycanthropic curse. Its tone was compared to Nightcrawler and Network, which honestly sounds like a winning idea for a werewolf movie.
The script comes from Whannell, Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum, and Rebecca Angelo. Jason Blum is producing the movie, while Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner, and Whannell serve as executive producers alongside Ryan Gosling. Ozark’s Julia Garner joins Abbott in the movie.
Wolf Man is due to be released on October 25, 2024.
