Well, it only took over five years ever since it was first announced, but The Astronauts’ new FPS Witchfire finally has a release date…for Early Access. Still, any Witchfire is welcome, and we did know that the game was planning an Early Access release as of last year. And now we know exactly when to expect our first true taste of the game’s classic FPS action, as a September date was announced at Summer Game Fest, complete with a new trailer that you can check out below.
The new clip is light on the game’s plot, about a war between witches and the church in a grimdark fantasy world where a witch hunter known as a “Preyer” is armed by the Vatican and is sent to kill a bunch of monstrous hordes, though that’s likely the point. According to Creative Director Adrian Chmielarz, the focus in Early Access will be on crafting and presenting a more polished gameplay experience that also gets the atmosphere down correctly, and then more story elements will be added as development progresses. Certainly a logical approach, and we certainly can’t wait to finally experience Witchfire when it arrives for PC via the Epic Games Store on September 20.
