The Witcher's third season will be a significant one for the show for a number of reasons. Most notably because it will be the last in which Henry Cavill plays Geralt. However, it will also feature completely original content that hasn't been pulled from the books and the games from which the series has been spun, and confirmation of that has gone down like a lead balloon with Witcher fans.
The Witcher's VFX supervisor Sebastien Francoeur and producer Graeme Marshall spoke with Screen Rant about what to expect from season three. No spoilers, of course, but confirmation that the finishing touches are being added ahead of the new season's arrival which is penciled in for later this year. Plus, the unpopular reveal that entirely new and original content will grace the show.

“I don’t think it’s anything that anyone’s read or seen before in Witcher lore, so I think it’s gonna be exciting,” Marshall said. Redanian Intelligence shared that snippet on Twitter, allowing fans to vent about that decision. As you will have likely assumed before even looking at the replies, pretty much all of them have called the decision to deviate from the source material into question.
Revealing season three won't pull from the books and the games at this particular moment in time was always going to garner this sort of response. The Last Of Us has been a massive hit while remaining incredibly faithful to the game.
