Supermassive Games recently announced that its upcoming horror game The Quarry won't feature online multiplayer at launch on June 10. Online multiplayer will arrive at a later date to prevent delaying The Quarry's June 2022 release date. Supermassive Games' immersive and interactive story games have become synonymous with multiplayer with friends. In previous titles from the British game developer, players are encouraged to play with friends, with each player taking control of one of the game's protagonists. While The Quarry will feature local couch co-op for up to seven players at launch, online multiplayer will arrive at a later date.
The Quarry is an upcoming interactive horror game from Supermassive Games and 2K Games serving as the spiritual successor to 2015's critically acclaimed Until Dawn. This isn't the first spin-off from that game, as a VR experience titled Until Dawn: Rush of Blood was released in 2016, set in the same world as teen horror slasher Until Dawn and featuring one of its nightmarish antagonists, The Psycho. Like other Supermassive Games titles, the player's decision-making determines everything from characters' personality traits, the storylines and one of many possible endings, and whether each character lives or dies.

Two weeks ahead of The Quarry's release date, Supermassive Games announced on Twitter that The Quarry will only offer single-player and local couch co-op modes at launch. Online multiplayer will arrive via a free update "no later than July 8th." The wording suggests the update could arrive sooner, depending on when the feature is ready to be released.
