Twitter is launching a new shopping feature called Product Drops(Opens in a new window) that aims to ensure you never miss a new product launch again.
When a seller tweets about an upcoming product launch, you'll see a "Remind me" button that, with one tap, sets a notification for 15 minutes before the launch is set to happen. The "Shop on website" option lets you purchase the item directly from the merchant's page.
For more information on what you're planning to buy, click the tweet to open a Product Details Page. There you'll find specifics such as the price, drop date and time, additional photos, an item description, and a hashtag highlighting what other Twitter shoppers are saying about the product. You can even see how many other people set reminders and may be vying for the same stock.
The new feature is currently available only to shoppers in the US who use Twitter in English on iOS devices. Early brand partners include luxury fashion house Dior, watchmaker Fossil, creative agency Jeff Staple, DIY retailer Home Depot, toy company Lego Group, and LA-based men's clothing store Union.
"Twitter's been a unique space for us to connect and communicate with our community of fans and keep our pulse on the culture," Union said in a statement, published by TechCrunch(Opens in a new window). "And every time we drop, Twitter's a key touchpoint for us to boost awareness. We're eager to see how Product Drops helps us take things up a notch and deepen how we engage and inform our audience around upcoming launches."
