Todd Howard, the director of Starfield and long-time executive producer of Bethesda, has confirmed the upcoming game will receive DLC expansions after its release. Starfield's firstgameplay trailer was recently shown at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase during Summer Game Fest 2022, offering fans their first full look at what they can expect from the space RPG.
Bethesda games are no strangers to post-launch content. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has garnered a reputation for its numerous re-releases over the past decade since it came out in 2012, with many of the new versions offering additional game modes such as the Anniversary Edition's Survival mode. As well as new game modes, Bethesda has also supportedSkyrim will a host of expansions and add-ons, including Dawnguard, Hearthfire, andDragonborn. With each new DLC came new mechanics and gameplay, re-introducing content from previous TES games or even adding mechanics like home-building to Skyrim.

Speaking with IGN after Starfield's gameplay reveal at the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase, executive producer anddirector Todd Howard confirmed that Starfield will be receiving DLC and expansions after its 2023 launch. Though Howard didn't go into detail on what the extra content will look like, he spoke on how players' experience in previous games shaped Bethesda's approach for this new RPG with a specific nod to the modding community, stating:
