This article contains spoilers for Stranger Things season 4 volume 1.
At the end of Stranger Things season 4, volume 1, Vecna reveals his identity to Nancy, but there is speculation as to why he does so to her, specifically. Vecna is the main villain of season 4, and his unique powers of reaching into his victims' minds and controlling them based on traumatic experiences are far different from a Demogorgon's animalistic tendencies. To make matters worse, Eleven is in California, therefore she isn't around to help the gang in Hawkins stop Vecna. Luckily, Nancy's journalistic instincts continue to be strong in season 4, and she learns about Victor Creel, whose family's deaths hold striking similarities to a Hawkins student's murder.
In season 4 of Stranger Things, Nancy investigates Chrissy's death. She learns that Victor has been institutionalized for his wife and kids' murders since the 1950s, so it is unlikely he's responsible for the new killings. However, she also knows that almost nothing is what it seems in Hawkins. She decides to visit the old man and learns pertinent information to help save her town. Toward the end of season 4, volume 1, Steve is dragged to the Upside Down, and Nancy jumps in after him. Shortly after, Robin and Eddie follow. In episode 7, «The Massacre at Hawkins Lab,» the group makes it to the Upside Down version of Eddie's trailer home, where they are able to be pulled up into the real world. Instead of Nancy passing through smoothly like Robin and Eddie, however, she instead is transported to an empty pool, where she sees a dead Barb.
