Who is Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars? The Ahsoka villain explained
Grand Admiral Thrawn is coming. The villain made his live-action debut in the first Ahsoka trailer, unveiled at Star Wars Celebration 2023, and his return has been teased twice in The Mandalorian.
But who exactly is Grand Admiral Thrawn, and what is his connection to Ahsoka and Ezra Bridger? We get into all the details you need to know here about the Imperial villain, so you can get ready for his role in the Ahsoka Disney Plus show due out this year.

The blue-skinned character made his first appearance in the old Legends continuity of Star Wars, which was made non-canon after Disney bought Lucasfilm and started their own continuity. However, Thrawn wasn't gone long, soon making a reappearance in novels written by his original creator Timothy Zahn.
Real name Mitth'raw'nuruodo, Thrawn was in charge of taking out the Rebels in Lothal. He personally met the Emperor and worked with Darth Vader – and, before that, he encountered Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars. He's famous for his strategic brilliance and is a calm and surprisingly polite villain.
It was revealed at Star Wars Celebration 2023 that Thrawn will be played by none other than Lars Mikkelsen, who voiced the character in Rebels. The Ahsoka trailer features a glimpse of the back of Thrawn's head, but those seated in the Celebration Stage were treated to an exclusive, front-facing look at Mikkelsen with the blue skin and red eyes.
