Warning: This article contains spoilers for 1883 Season 1
TheYellowstone prequel spinoff 1883 season 2 will feature a new lead character in the form of Bass Reeves, the legendary lawman who may have inspired The Lone Ranger. Created by Taylor Sheridan, 1883 season 1 featured the story of James and Margaret Dutton and their children, who make their way to Montana in 1883, settling in what would become the Yellowstone Ranch, the basis for the hit series Yellowstone. The 10-episode first season wrapped up the first chapter of the Dutton family saga with tragedy and renewal, setting the tone for things to come on that sacred land for decades to come.
Recently, it was announced that the Dutton family saga would continue in a new Yellowstone prequel series, 1932, which would take place roughly 50 years after 1883 and star Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. 1932 will presumably follow the Dutton offspring as they continue the journey of keeping the Yellowstone Ranch safe from all who seek to take it. However, it appears that the time period of 1883 still has more story to tell, as it was also announced that Sheridan would continue the series, but with an all-new protagonist: real-life lawman Bass Reeves. David Oyelowo will portray Bass Reeves in 1883 season 2, now titled 1883: The Bass Reeves Story.
