Howdy buckeroos! And welcome to Whatcha Been Playing? This week’s entry is most certainly not brought to you by “Intergalactic” Coca-Cola, whose promise of “Blackcurrant and Carrot” flavoring did not, unfortunately, offer an out-of-this-world taste sensation to send my delicate palette rocketing into the stratosphere.
I like soda. I drink quite a lot of it. But I do feel we already have more than enough varieties to choose from, and I’m unsure whether the call is warranted for Intergalactic Coke, Pixel Coke, or Pepsi Nitro, to name a few. Then again, I’m old enough to remember The Cola Wars. It was horrible, son. Ring pulls littering the streets, “improved recipes” that tasted abysmal, fresh-faced youngsters singing on a hilltop, and Michael Jackson’s head catching fire… Well, it was mostly horrible.
It’s all irrelevant anyway. I’ll always be an Afri-Cola man.
It’s been an utterly chaotic time for me. And while I’m on the verge of what should be a fresh start, I instead feel stuck, confused, scared, and angry. My country sucks and has no money, my knees ache, I’m creatively dry, and I have to move house real soon. Is this the storm before the calm? I sure hope so. Because I want to start telling you about games I have been playing, and I haven’t been playing any.
In fact, this weekend will probably see me box up my consoles for the move, so that’ll be at least a week without Street Fighter, or Streets of Rage, or Celeste, or any of the wonderful digital experiences that help keep the ol’ noodle screwed on. Not only that, but Devolver Digital’s Trek to Yomi is on the horizon. How can I not be ready to rock when that drops?
